Long established as one of the UK folk scene’s most rewardingly enduring partnerships, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are two time winners of the BBC Folk Award for Best Duo, carrying home the prize in both 2013 and 2016.

The pair’s intimacy and strength of passion on stage have won them many fans and an enviable reputation as writers par excellence whose greatly varied original songs cover such subjects as wicked mermaids, Norwegian legends and a lonely whale.

Kathryn’s career began performing as a duo with fellow Barnsley-ite Kate Rusby, before teaming up with the Lakeman brothers to form folk-pop group Equation. After the band’s split she formed her multi-award winning duo with now husband Sean, and in 2015 was asked to join the iconic 70s folk rock band Fotheringay, stepping into the shoes of the late great Sandy Denny.

A tour de force of modern folk, Sean orchestrated the sound of little brother Seth, producing his most successful albums and touring in his band. Sean’s production credits include some of the biggest names in British folk and folk-rock, including Levellers, Frank Turner, Billy Bragg, Imelda May, Bellowhead, Rev Hammer and Show of Hands.
