One of the top comedy club nights in the country, The Comedy Network, returns to Selby in 2024.
Each event will feature an MC, opening act and headliner for the bargain price of just £10.
Headliner – Aaron Simmonds (PLEASE NOTE, AARON IS A REPLACEMENT FOR ORIGINALLY ADVERTISED HEADLINER NATHAN CATON)
Aaron Simmonds has been failing to stand up for 34 years; luckily he is far better at comedy than standing up. Aaron has appeared on QI (BBC Two), Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV), Russell Howard Hour (Sky), Undeniable (Comedy Central) and Guessable (Comedy Central) and has been heard on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio Scotland. Aaron offers sharply-observed comedy which is grounded in his disability, but is by no means limited by it.
Aaron performed his critically-acclaimed debut shows, Disabled Coconut and Hot Wheels, at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019 and 2022. He was an Amused Moose Comedy Award Best Show finalist and was nominated for Best Comedy Show in the Broadway World UK Edinburgh Fringe Awards in 2019.
In 2023, he then decided to embark on his biggest challenge yet, perform stand-up standing up! Baby Steps received rave reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, with sold-out shows a longlist for the ISH Edinburgh Best Comedy Show Award.
“Not only does Simmonds stand up for the entire hour of his show, titled Baby Steps, he keeps his audience glued to their seats” ★★★★ – The Courier.
“Amiable, likeable, and a commanding presence on stage, Aaron Simmonds is an exciting talent” ★★★★ – Broadway Baby
At 6ft 1, with the longest wingspan in comedy (*probably), Kate’s a naturally engaging, energetic performer with effortlessly tight gags to match. Her unique background in mental health has given her a fresh take on the world, a completely distinctive voice, and fuels her high energy storytelling, whip-smart punchlines and razor-sharp observations of life’s quirks through queer eyes.
Kate is ‘brilliantly funny & energetic’ (Angela Barnes) and her ‘confident delivery and slick material’ (Chortle) have quickly established her as one of the most exciting acts on the circuit. Kate was a finalist of the Funny Women Stage Awards 2022, runner-up in the finals of the WDCF New Comedian of the Year competition 2021, and in 2021 won the Comedy Store’s King Gong, Up the Creeks Blackout, and the Frog and Bucket’s Beat the Frog.
‘Bulletproof’ – Chortle
‘She’s definitely got funny bones’ – Beyond the Joke
‘Kate Martin is brilliantly funny, energetic and a little bit filthy, which I’m sure you’ll agree is a pretty great combo’ – Angela Barnes
‘Undeniably gifted. Explosive new talent, definitely an act that you will be bragging about seeing early in her career’ – NDC
