SEATING AND ACCESS

The Town Hall is a small venue (up to 140 capacity) situated in a former Methodist chapel. It is fully seated. About two thirds of the seats are on the ground floor (what purpose built venues would describe as stalls) with the remainder located on the balcony. The central bank of seats on the ground floor are tiered with some flat floor rows at the front and to the sides. Stairs to the balcony are fairly narrow and steep. Balcony seats face the stage front on, arranged in a gentle semi-circle – there are no seats with side views.

  • All events are seated (unless otherwise stated)
  • Tickets are unreserved and seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis
  • There is ramped access to the venue from the front gate (Gowthorpe entrance) and all facilities within the venue are at ground level
  • There is also ramped access to the rear of the building (York Street entrance, via venue car park) for events taking place in our studio
  • There is a dedicated accessible toilet in the bar area, and the male and female toilets in the venue foyer both have accessible cubicles
  • Customers with particular access requirements who require seating in a specific part of the venue can reserve their seat in advance – please call 01757 708449 or email access@selbytownhall.co.uk and we will make sure that a seat which meets your requirements is reserved
  • Guide dogs are welcome
  • We are sorry, but there are no induction loop or minicom facilities in the venue
  • Holders of an Access Card featuring the “+1” symbol, or recipients of Personal Independence Payments, Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Armed Forces Independence Payment or customers who are registered sight impaired, and who require an escort to attend performances, can claim a free ticket for their escort. Please call 01757 708449 or email access@selbytownhall.co.uk and we will be able to set you up with a ‘carer’ membership which allows access to these tickets.

Our chairs are upholstered with shallow cushioning. The seat is 44cm wide with a 46cm backrest. In the central tiered section, seats are 7cm apart with 40cm of leg room. The maximum loading of the chairs is 134kg / 21 stone.

If these are not suitable, there are chairs located to the left and right (on flat floor) where it is possible to increase both leg room and the gap between seats. If you have particular requirements relating to the space around chairs we would be happy to reserve one which meets your needs, or discuss options for using a different style of chair. Please call 01757 708449 or email access@selbytownhall.co.uk.

REFRESHMENTS

The Town Hall is a licensed venue and operates a bottle bar serving a small selection of lagers, locally brewed ales, wines and soft drinks. No food or snacks are sold on the premises.
