Jorvik is an interactive, immersive play set directly in the aftermath of the fall of Eoforwic (York) to the great Viking army, and its rebirth as the legendary Jorvik.
This is a play that leans heavily on the Viking mythos, rejoices in the fantastical and is delivered with the spirit of larger than life storytelling! We follow our protagonist; Ubbe, soaked in the blood of battle as he finds himself at a great banquet in his honour. But in this mysterious throne room… not all is as it seems!
Jorvik is a play about loss, glory, family, and celebrating life while we are still around to enjoy it. Expect big characters, song, fights and plenty of table banging. Join us on this adventure in Selby Town Hall and help us find Valhalla!
Fun, fierce and with a lot of heart Jorvik is a piece of new writing that explores the modern day through the Viking lens. We aren’t as different from our ancestors as we think. Our desires – while modern at a glance – are deeply rooted in the same human condition: the obsession with glory, fate, and the need to be remembered. Jorvik serves as a reminder that we need to enjoy life whilst we are still around to do so, and to cherish those we hold dear.
‘Powerful, raw, intense, and wonderfully choreographed to bring the audience into a world of theatre. Amazing.’
First performed in the heart of York, at the historic Viking Festival.
